You do not need to learn every system before your first match. Pick one role, learn one map, and understand one escape route first.

Multiplayer

What Should I Do First as a Civilian?

The first three decisions of a match, in the order they happen.

    Look around before you cross the map

    When the match starts, read where you are before you move. Note the houses, the street layout and nearby lootable containers. Multiplayer item and escape locations can change from one match to the next, so a spot from a previous match is not a guarantee.

    Find and warn residents

    Residents are not scenery. Warning them, convincing them to listen, and helping them reach a hiding spot or an escape is part of the Civilian job and part of the team result. A resident standing in the open is a problem you can still fix.

    Pick up items with a purpose

    Do not loot everything. Ask what the item in your hand is for, then decide whether it is worth a slot. A name on its own does not tell you which escape or task it belongs to.

Do not assume every escape needs the same items. An escape name is not enough — read the interaction in front of you, then carry the item it names.

Multiplayer

What Should I Do First as Michael?

The first match is about information and pressure, not about learning every system.

    Understand the goal

    Michael is not only chasing the four player characters. The residents of Haddonfield are part of the system, and the Civilians are trying to keep them safe.

    Gather information first

    Approach with shadows, stealth and line of sight. Reading where the group is before you commit tells you far more than running straight at them.

  3. 3

    Learn one weapon

    Pick a single weapon and learn how it behaves before you worry about the rest of the loadout.

    Learn executions later

    Executions have their own weapon and environmental requirements. Leave them for after you understand basic pressure and attacks.

Story Mode is separate from the 1v4 Multiplayer experience. It follows Michael across six chapters, so nothing you learn there is a Multiplayer loadout.

Your First 3 Matches

This is a suggested way to learn, not a required order. The point is to add one skill per match instead of trying to learn everything at once.

    Learn one map

    Pick a single Multiplayer map and learn its houses, streets and escape interactions. Do not try to memorise all four at once.

  • Match 2

    Understand one escape and its items

    Follow one escape from the interaction to the items it names, and use the Escape Checker when the lock in front of you changes.

  • Match 3

    Learn your Civilian's stats, Trait and Perks

    Read what your character is actually good at instead of copying someone else’s loadout.
