Mechanics

How Passive Challenges Work

The first two points are the game's own published description. The last two come from the current build's data.

  • Published by the game

    Automatic

Progress is tracked while you play. You do not select a Passive Challenge as your active Challenge.

  • Published by the game

    Role-based

Passive Challenge families belong to Killer or Civilian categories, not to one specific named character.

  • Current build data

    Milestone-based

One family holds a series of increasing goals. Reaching a goal completes that milestone and moves the family forward.

  • Current build data

    Rewarded

Milestones award XP, Perk Points and — where one is configured — an item or cosmetic.

Rewards

Passive Challenge Rewards

Milestone rewards are exact. This page does not add a reward-value total, because families are completed at different rates and across different roles.

Milestones can award:

  • XP
  • Perk Points
  • Items or cosmetics, where one is configured

Every milestone in the current data awards XP and Perk Points, and most milestones also award an item or cosmetic. Because those two rewards are universal, the browser filters by role, category and required level instead of pretending XP and Perk Points separate these families.

Looking for one reward? Search its name in the browser — item and cosmetic names are searchable.

Troubleshooting

Passive Challenge Not Progressing?

Most cases come down to which counter a family actually records, so check that before assuming a bug.

Check these five things first

Which side of the game is this family on?
Check whether the family is listed as Killer or Civilian. Progress only comes from playing that role.
Read the exact requirement, not a similar one.
Two families can sound alike and still track different counters. Use the family’s “What counts” line as the definition.
Is a player level required?
Some collections only progress once the listed required level is reached. The card shows the level for its collection.
Confirm the action the counter records.
Repeat the exact action named in the requirement rather than a nearby action that appears to do the same thing.
Progress looks unchanged right after the action.
If progress is not visible immediately, check again from the Challenge screen after the match instead of assuming the counter is broken.

Passive vs Progressive

Which Challenge System Is This?

The two systems are easy to mix up, so this is the short version. The Challenges hub covers both in full.

QuestionPassiveProgressive

Other Challenge systems

Looking for a Different Challenge?

Passive Challenges are one of three Challenge systems. If this page does not match what you are playing, try one of these.

  • Story Challenges

Playing Michael's Story? Optional Story objectives use a separate 36-Challenge system spread across six chapters.

  • Progressive Challenges

Challenge tied to a named Civilian, Michael variant or a weapon? That is a Progressive Challenge, and it advances in sequence.

  • Prestige Challenges

Prestige uses separate tier-specific challenge pools. Passive Challenges do not advance Prestige.

FAQ

Passive Challenges FAQ

What are Passive Challenges?
Automatically tracked Challenge families for Killer and Civilian play. They progress from matching gameplay actions and do not need to be selected as an active Challenge.
How many Passive Challenges are there?
The current build contains 96 Challenge families holding 480 exact milestones. That count is measured from the game itself rather than from an official published list.
Do I need to select a Passive Challenge?
No. Passive Challenges are tracked automatically rather than being chosen from an active Challenge slot.
Are Passive Challenges character-specific?
They are divided into Killer and Civilian categories rather than being tied to one named Civilian. Chains that belong to a specific character, Michael variant or weapon are Progressive Challenges.
What rewards do Passive Challenges give?
Exact rewards differ by milestone. Every milestone in the current data awards XP and Perk Points, and most milestones also award an item or cosmetic where one is configured.
Why is my Passive Challenge not progressing?
Check the role, the exact tracked action, the milestone you are currently on, and any required player level, rather than assuming two similarly worded Challenges share the same counter.
Can several Passive Challenges progress at the same time?
Yes. Tracking is automatic rather than a single selected Challenge, so more than one family counter can move in the same match. Which actions feed which family is exactly what each family’s “What counts” line states — this page does not assume a fixed stacking rule.
